Its amazing to think that in just over 100 years ago nearly all the farm land was worked by horses and I've no
doubt in another 100 years it will be that way again! My Father came to Broad Oak in the 1930's which was towards the end
of Horses working the land, however I can just remember Blodwen and Jessie, Blodwen was the cart horse that pulled the milk
float around Broughton village and Jessie was my Sister's pet horse. My Farther used to say a horse and cart was better than
a milk float as you just called the horse on to each stop as you delivered the milk and no need to jump in and out of the
float to move it on as the hose knew all the stops.
I was born in 1957 so they must of been around till 1960's for me to remember them, after that apart from the exceptional
visit there has not been a horse living here for over 30 years.
If I can find a pic of Blodwen in the cart I'll add it to this selection, sorry the quality of pics ain't brilliant but
thought you may find them of intrest and a little bit of history from the old farm stead.
